Immunization Information and Requirements

Massachusetts State Law requires all students who are enrolled in twelve or more credits per semester or international students regardless of the number of credits being taken,  to submit proof of immunizations.  The immunization requirements for the State of Massachusetts are as follows:

Required and Recommended Immunizations for Students

Required Immunizations:

Massachusetts State Law mandates that all students who are registered for full-time classes in a College or University in the Commonwealth submit appropriate evidence that they have been vaccinated against:

 Vaccine Dose  Dosage Requirement
Measles 2

On or after 1st birthday; 1st & 2nd dose greater than 1 month apart

Mumps 1 On or after 1st birthday
Rubella 1 On or after 1st birthday
Tetanus-Diphtheria 1 Within the last 10 years.
Hepatitis B 3

1st and 2nd dose 1 month apart; 2nd and 3rd doses at least 2 moths apart, preferably 4 months apart.

Meningitis

Within the last 5 years, completed at least 2 weeks before matriculation.
**Note: Only required for students living in Residence Halls. All students living within the Residence Halls on campus (Miller Hall, 10 West or 150 Tremont), regardless of the number of credits registered, must submit proof of the meningitis vaccine or sign the waiver available here

New students will receive a packet late spring/early summer with a Health History & Immunization form. The Health History & Immunization form, meningitis waiver and documentation of all required vaccines should be sent together promptly to our office.

Documentation must indicate both the month and year when the vaccines were received.

A blood test (titer) showing immunity to measles, mumps, rubella and hepatitis B is acceptable; however, a lab report with immune titers must be submitted.

Failure to comply with this regulation will result in the student being blocked from registering for classes.

All immunization records must be signed by a physician or designee.

Immunizations are available at Health Services. Please call 617.573.8260 to make an appointment. Immunization fees are payable by cash or check only.

Recommended Immunizations:

In an effort to increase students’ awareness about some of the newer vaccines, and to encourage protection against other vaccine-preventable diseases, Suffolk University has adopted the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and the American College Health Association (ACHA). CDC and ACHA recommend that students should consider receiving vaccinations against Varicella (Chicken Pox).

It is recommended that all entering college students without a history of having had chicken pox receive two doses of Varicella vaccine given one month apart.
