
To participate in the McNair Scholars Program, the US Department of Education (USDOE) requires that Suffolk undergraduates meet the following criteria:
~ are a first generation (neither parent has a bachelor's degree) college student
~ meet specific income guidelines established by the U.S. Department of Education or a member of a group historically underrepresented in graduate programs.
~ are a Sophomore or Junior with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above
~ a full-time Suffolk Student.
~ a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident.

For family units with more than eight members, add the following amount for each additional family member: $5,730 for the 48 contiguous states, the District of Columbia and outlying jurisdictions; $7,170 for Alaska; and $6,585 for Hawaii.
The above figures represent income amounts equal to 150 percent of the family income levels established by the Census Bureau. The guidelines were published by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in the Federal Register, Vol. 76, No. 13, January 20, 2011, pp. 3637-3638.
