These are a few of the more frequently asked questions about Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) at Suffolk University, along with their answers. If you don't find the question you're thinking of, or if you'd like to explore the thought in more detail, please feel free to contact us!

How much does Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) cost?

Absolutely nothing! As a participant in Suffolk University's Veterans Upward Bound program, all of your course materials, books and supplies, tutoring, and facility access are free! back to top^

How long does VUB take to get me ready for college?

That really depends on your individual circumstances. Some Veterans may need traditional classroom instruction --sessions are 11 weeks long -- and other Veterans can 'tune up' for college with independent online classes in a few weeks. Still others may have been out of school for some time; they may participate up to a year or longer. One of the first things you'll receive in VUB is an academic assessment to determine your strengths and needs. Then, you'll sit down with Suffolk VUB staff to craft an Individual Education Plan (IEP) that will get you ready for college in a timeframe that works for you!  back to top^

How do I know if I'm eligible to participate in VUB?

VUB is grant-funded through the United States Department of Education, which has set certain eligibility criteria. Please visit our Eligibility page to learn if you qualify. back to top^

Is VUB right for me?

Many Veterans feel that they are ready for college today, and suspect Veterans Upward Bound may not be right for them or could be a waste of time; however, it's important to recognize that the transition from the community to college life can be as difficult as your transition from the military to civilian life may have been. VUB's staff, classes, and supports help ensure that you are truly ready for your first semester of college.

Some of the ways that VUB helps prepare Veterans for college are online, one-on-one tutoring sessions, and traditional classroom classes; helping Veterans identify the best college for their goals; as well as assisting with college applications and financial aid. VUB's staff is committed to helping every Veteran succeed, and encourages all Veterans considering college to explore how VUB can help make their education dream a reality and a success.
