Institutional Review Board (IRB)

Suffolk University is committed to promoting the ethical conduct of research and protecting the rights and welfare of human subjects. Through our Federal Wide Assurance (FWA 00007700), Suffolk makes a commitment to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that it will comply with the requirements of the Common Rule at 45 CFR 46 and the Belmont Report. These regulations are available online through the Office of Human Research Protections' (OHRP) website.

The IRB is responsible for reviewing all research involving human subjects to ensure compliance with federal regulations, state law and institutional policies and procedures. The IRB is comprised of faculty, staff and non-affiliated members who are charged with reviewing all human subjects research conducted by Suffolk University's faculty, staff and students. Information regarding the regulations guiding the composition and responsibilities of the IRB are available online through OHRP's website.

The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) Research Compliance Coordinator (RCC) provides administrative support and information regarding regulatory compliance to Suffolk's IRB. The ORSP is dedicated to providing the necessary tools and resources to encourage a prompt and efficient IRB review process. If you have any questions or would like additional information on whether your research project requires IRB review, please contact the Research Compliance Coordinator, Lucia Calderon, CIP at irb@suffolk.edu or (617) 557-2006.
