How to Locate Periodicals

Use Sawyer Library’s online catalog to determine the periodical’s title and format. The catalog record will also have information about that periodical’s online availability, which you are encouraged to use.

  • Paper periodicals (Journals) are located on the third floor of the library and are shelved alphabetically by title.
  • Current Newspapers are shelved before "A" and back issues of the daily papers are shelved after "Z".
    • The Daily Newspapers are kept for at least 2 months, then recycled. Only The Boston Globe, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal are retained on microfilm.
  • Microtexts are shelved alphabetically in the metal cabinets near the microfilm readers on the third Floor.
    • Any microtext that has a call number that begins with LAC and is part of The Library of American Civilization is ultrafiche and requires a special lens. Please inquire at the Periodicals Office before using this fiche.
For help locating periodicals, please visit the Periodicals Office on the third floor.
