The Archer Building, a cornerstone of Suffolk University, stands at the corner of Derne and Temple Streets.
Originally built in 1920, it is named for Suffolk University founder and long-time Dean and President Gleason L. Archer. It was the first all-new building built by Suffolk University.
Originally three stories tall, the building expanded throughout the next three decades. Calvin Coolidge, then a former Massachusetts Governor and future President of the United States, was present at the setting of the cornerstone.
At various times over the years, some odd features had been added and removed from the building, including a rooftop tennis court and a giant electrical sign.
