At this special reception held in Sargent Hall at the end of March, Suffolk University student scholarship recipients honored and thanked the dedicated alumni and friends who contribute to scholarship support.

The John Joseph Moakley Charitable Foundation was honored for its generosity to Suffolk over the past several years on behalf of the Suffolk alumnus and legendary U.S. Congressman. Acting President Marisa Kelly praised Congressman Moakley’s passionate commitment to public service and expressed appreciation for his life-long commitment to Suffolk that lives on through the John Joseph Moakley JD’56 Scholarship and the continuing generosity of the Moakley Foundation.

Moakley Scholarship recipient, Derek Ciulla JD’17, thanked the foundation for this scholarship that has enabled him to attend Suffolk Law and pursue a legal career that will improve people’s lives.

Moakley Foundation Treasurer, William H. Shaevel, recalled Congressman Moakley’s love of Suffolk and public service, and noted that Joe Moakley’s grand-nephew will begin Suffolk Law this fall.

Acting President Kelly thanked all those in attendance for their generosity on behalf of Suffolk’s students, stating “What all of our students have in common is…their sincere gratitude to all of you, the dedicated alumni and friends who help them achieve their educational and professional goals through your generous financial support.”  Suffolk graduate student and soon-to-be-double Ram, Elainy Mata BS/MSPS ’17, shared her Suffolk story and underscored the transformational impact of scholarship support on her and all students who receive financial assistance.
