When George G. Moker looks at his students, it’s a bit like looking into a crystal ball. And what he sees is encouraging.

“How often in life do you get to have a positive impact on people around you,” asks Moker, an instructor of management and entrepreneurship and director of Suffolk’s Center for Entrepreneurship, “especially when they represent the future?”

If you’re Moker, the answer is every day. He stands before his students with a quarter-century’s worth of experience as a certified public accountant (CPA) for startups. He says his impact is evident whenever his students come up with a business idea that solves an everyday problem or brings value to an existing organization.

“Our students are a passionate group of ‘doers’ that makes things happen,” he says. “It’s an incredible responsibility and experience to help prepare students for the opportunities ahead. Our students drive the bus and are engaged participants in our program.”

Moker is the founder and CEO of Moker CPA PC, a Massachusetts-based firm that specializes in small business innovation research, small business technology transfer, and other government-funded for-profit startup organizations. His firm has a nationwide client base consisting of startup organizations with revenue ranging from $100,000 to $20 million, with funding from various government agencies. This hands-on experience directly fuels Moker’s leadership of the Center for Entrepreneurship, which he has helmed since 2008.

But while Moker draws invaluable insight from his experience in the field, he credits the Suffolk community for enabling him to translate that insight to meaningful impact.

“I couldn’t do what I do without the support of my colleagues across all departments, our administration, and especially our students who give us the energy to continue building and making things happen.”
