The Department of Economics offers two master's programs and one dual degree program with Suffolk Law School.
Please note that these three programs are no longer accepting applications for new student enrollment.
Master of Science in Economics
The Master of Science in Economics (MSE) allows students to study both economic policy and international economics.
The MSE is a more broad-based program than our Master of Science in International Economics (MSIE) program and allows students to have more choices in course selections based on their preferences and career plans. Students completing this program may pursue a career as a generalist in both private and public sectors.
Master of Science in International Economics
The Master of Science in International Economics (MSIE) is an alternative to an MBA and provides students with the analytical tools necessary to succeed in business.
Choose the MSIE if you’re interested in employment as an analyst or consultant with international trading companies, financial institutions, economics forecasting and consulting companies, multinational companies, international law firms, and a variety of international organizations. The program is also an excellent preparation for study at the doctoral level.
Unlike a traditional master’s program in business administration, the MSIE provides a solid foundation in statistical and quantitative tools with applied focus. Graduates gain sophisticated skills for analytical and empirical analysis of the global economy, including:
- Advanced forecasting techniques for economic, financial, and marketing research
- Construction and use of international financial databases
- Analysis of international trade issues and policies
- Writing technical reports on current issues in international economics and finance
- Analysis of foreign exchange markets
Joint Master of Science in International Economics/Law Program
This joint Master of Science in International Economics/Law degree combines the study of law with international economic institutions, business issues, markets, and trends. The MSIE/JD is appropriate for those who want to practice law in fields requiring an understanding of the global economy. Through careful integration of the JD and MSIE curriculum, the program allows students to earn both degrees in four years (Law School Day Program) or five years (Law School Evening Program).
