Business Reply is a special type of incoming mail used when a department wants to ensure itself of a reply to a mailing. It is accomplished by supplying a pre-addressed, pre-paid envelope to the recipient. This type of mail is mainly used for surveys, marketing programs, alumni balloting and similar projects. One important advantage to the department is that you are charged only for the actual replies which are returned. Cost is First Class postage plus a handling fee ($0.465 + $ 0.095 = $0.56 ea.).
A special format for business reply mail has been set up by the U.S. Postal Service requiring special ZIP Codes, printing of envelopes and pre-payment to the Post Office. Any department wishing to use Business Reply Mail must contact the Campus Mail Services Supervisor before doing so.
