David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk University Political Research Center, knew he was going out on a limb when his polling figures predicted that Scott Brown would defeat onetime front-runner Martha Coakley in the race for the U.S. Senate seat formerly held by Ted Kennedy.

Polling is "an art and a science," said Paleologos, who offers an on-camera analysis of what his recent series of polls reveals, not only about the Brown victory, but also about the state of mind of Massachusetts voters.
