The Western New England Men's Basketball team defeated Suffolk University 87-69 Monday night at Suffolk's Regan Gymnasium thanks to 23 points off the bench from Ryan Hernandez. Hernandez was 9-17 from the field and 4-7 from three point range. With the victory, the Golden Bears improved to 9-2 in the GNAC and 12-7 overall. Suffolk dropped to 5-6 in the GNAC and 6-13 overall.

WNEC controlled the game throughout taking a 40-26 lead into the second half thanks to a 20-7 run to end the half. The Golden Bears continued their impressive play taking a 62-43 lead with 10:27 remaining in the game.

However, the Rams battled back cutting the WNEC lead to just 69-62 with a 19-7 run in four minutes. The Rams would not get any closer for the remainder of the game as the Golden Bears stifled the Suffolk come back with an 18-7 run to end the game.

WNEC recieved a solid effort from Jim Bayne with 19 points and seven rebounds on 6-11 shooting. Point guard Asif Abdul-Wadud chipped in with 14 points and six assists. Abdul-Wadud was an impressive 8-9 from the free-throw line. Kyle Fredette added a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds on 5-7 shooting.

Despite the loss, John Murphy (North Reading, MA) led his Suffolk team with 19 points and five assists. Murphy shot just 6-20 from the field and 2-10 from three-point land. Brian Small (Stoughton, MA) scored 16 points, including 4-6 shooting from beyond the arc. Freshman guard Alan Jaziri (Norwich, CT) also added 10 points on 50 percent shooting.
