On Wednesday, May 26, Associate Director of Career Services, Betsy McDowell was recognized for “New Program Initiative” at the 20th annual Student Affairs Recognition Dinner and End of the Year Celebration. Awards were given to individuals whose contributions lived up to the Office of Student Affair’s mission of creating an engaging environment that enriches the academic, social, and personal experiences for all students.

This past year, McDowell successfully launched the Sophomore Shadowing Program. The program was designed to link CAS and SBS students with alumni professionals in their field of interest for a “day in the life” experience. McDowell matched fifty students with thirty alumni mentors in a multitude of fields, as well as oversaw the week-long program that took place during spring break. Vice President of Student Affairs Nancy Stoll described McDowell as “tenacious in her determination to see the project succeed.”

Participating alumni mentors represented some of the following employers: Adidas, KPMG, Bank of New York Mellon, Department of Corrections, ACCO Brands, and Anthem Event Planning

The success of this pilot effort provides the office with the foundation for incorporating the program as an annual event.
