Hundreds of students turned out for a first glimpse at the University’s updated Ram athletics logo.

Students, faculty, and staff cheered as the new Rammy icon, designed by a British illustrator, was revealed. The logo – an imposing yet majestic image of a leaping ram, with head down and horns prominent – was designed to boost the visibility of the University’s athletics programs.

President David J. Sargent, Vice President for Student Affairs Nancy Stoll, and Director of Athletics Jim Nelson addressed the crowd and thanked everyone for their loyal support.

“We are proud of our student athletes, past and present,” President Sargent said, noting that the combined grade point average for Suffolk’s student athletes is above 3.0.

The festivities offered an opportunity to rally around the Rams athletics squads and wish them well during the fall, winter and spring seasons.

“We’re pleased to welcome our new Ram,” said Nelson. “We hope that the logo will capture the vitality and excitement of our present students and student athletes and those for generations to come.”

Rammy T-shirts and temporary tattoos were distributed, and those attending had a chance to win Rams hats or tickets to a Red Sox, Bruins, or Celtics game.

The old Ram logo had served Suffolk University well since the athletics teams’ name was changed from the Royals to the Rams in 1950. But the new logo has a more modern and dynamic look that will be easier to reproduce on clothing and other materials.
