The Suffolk University softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Simmons College 11-8 and 9-4 Friday afternoon at Puopolo Field in Boston. The Rams host Emerson in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader at noon on Saturday.

Simmons used a nine-run fourth inning to propel itself to the Game 1 victory. Suffolk led 3-0 with two outs when a barrage of Simmons hits gave Simmons a 5-3 lead. With the bases loaded and the score still 5-3, Ann Talarico delivered a grand slam to left field to cap off the inning and give her team a 9-3 advantage.

The Rams fought back scoring one run in the fourth and fifth inning. Marie Trainor's (Winthrop, MA)sacrifice fly in the fourth scored Jenna Mourey (Rochester, NY) and Kellie Hurlock's (East Lyme, CT) RBI single in the fifth cut the Simmons lead to 9-5.

Suffolk trailed 11-5 heading into the bottom of the sixth and responded with three runs in the inning. A Jess Ferreira (Cambridge, MA) two-run triple cut the lead to 11-7. Ferreira would later come around to score on an Ashley Gaboriault's (Sutton, MA) RBI single to cut the deficit to 11-8.

Simmons' Joanna Donato and Suffolk's Ferreira each had complete games.

In Game 2, Simmons took advantage of a four-run first, capped off by a Leah Derderian two-run home run over the left field wall, to win 9-4. The Rams trailed 5-1 in the fifth before a Rebecca Schalit (Miami, FL) solo shot to right field made it a 5-2 game.

Simmons held the 5-2 lead heading into the sixth and added four more runs in the inning. Natalie West highlighted the inning with a two-run triple.

The Rams pushed two-runs across in the bottom half of the inning to make it a 9-4 game. Gaboriault and Valerie Liberatore (Chelsea, MA) each had RBI's in the inning.

Sammi Letizio picked up the win for Simmons, striking out six. Mourey suffered the loss for the Rams.

Suffolk dropped to 12-19 overall and 10-10 in the GNAC. Simmons improved to 12-14 overall and 9-7 in the GNAC.
