Suffolk University’s location in downtown Boston has landed it in the top third of Niche Colleges’ Top 100 list for best location.

Niche Colleges evaluated the locations of more than 1,700 four-year colleges and universities across the United States, and Suffolk was ranked 29th for location nationally and eighth among the 62 Massachusetts institutions that made the grade. The data used in the rankings are collected primarily from U.S. government agencies and rounded out by student surveys

Given its location central to Boston government, business, legal and health care entities, the University is uniquely situated to create cutting-edge interdisciplinary programs centered on public policy, urban issues, entrepreneurship and innovation.

But Niche Colleges location rankings focus on other aspects of college life, and students gave Suffolk A-plus grades for:

  • Outdoor activities
  • Access to coffee shops
  • Access to restaurants
  • Access to bars

The Boston weather received a B from those surveyed.

A key statistic was the youthfulness of city residents, with the rankings noting that 19 percent of Boston’s population is between the ages of 18 and 24.

“Top-ranked colleges offer students easy access to unique experiences, and students report being able to enjoy excellent nightlife, dining, and cultural attractions,” says the Niche Colleges description of its location rankings.

Suffolk also received an A for diversity and a B-plus for transportation.
