Suffolk lost to Johnson & Wales, 7-6, in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference baseball tournament, moving the Rams into the elimination game Saturday against Rivier at Holman Stadium in Nashua, NH at 12 p.m.

The winner of Saturday's 12 p.m. elimination game will face the losing team from the 3 p.m. game between Western New England, a 13-4 winner over Rivier, and Johnson & Wales. Sunday's GNAC finals begin at 12 p.m. with a 3 p.m. game if necessary.

Suffolk got behind early against JWU Thursday, as the Wildcats scored three runs in the top of the first inning off starting pitcher Steve Durant (Malden, MA).

The Rams tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the third inning when freshman outfielder Tom Kelly doubled to drive in three runs, scoring Kevin Silva (Hull, MA), Nick Martinho (Middleton, MA) and Greg DiMarco (Newton, MA).

Durant gave up another run in the fourth as JWU took a 4-3 lead on two hits in that inning. JWU added three runs in the seventh inning to go up 7-3. Durant pitched seven innings, giving up seven runs on nine hits with three walks and six strikeouts. Three of the the nine hits were doubles for JWU.

Suffolk came back to close the gap in the seventh inning when Silva's ground out to second base scored Jeison King (Lowell, MA). The Rams scored two more runs in the eighth inning when senior designated hitter Marc Exarhopoulos singled to drive in DiMarco and Kelly. Kelly finished the game with three hits in four at-bats and three RBI, two of his hits were doubles.

The Rams could not get a runner on base in the ninth inning to end the game. Suffolk is now 19-11 overall.
