Recycling Coordinator Erica Mattison’s role has been expanded to include coordinating projects for campus sustainability within the Facilities Planning and Management Department.

In her new role Mattison, a graduate student in the Sawyer Business School, is staffing a campus wide energy-efficiency initiative.

In the past year, the University decreased trash output while tripling recycling, according to Mattison.

“The campus sustainability movement is growing dramatically each month, with more and more universities hiring sustainability coordinators to educate and facilitate progress regarding waste minimization and recycling, energy and water conservation, transportation, purchasing, food and dining, and green building practices,” she said.

Mattison is working with several Suffolk groups to explore and implement methods to reduce wasteful practices and increase environmental responsibility. These groups include the Recycling and Sustainability task forces, the Energy Committee, the Public Administration Green Team, the Law School Green Team, the Suffolk Recyclers, the Environmental Law Society.
