How to Search in the Library

Treatises and looseleafs in the law library may be found in three locations: the treatise collection on the 6th and 7th floors, the reference collection on the 6th floor, and the reserve desk on the 6th floor. For some titles, copies are shelved in two or even all three locations.

Reserve

If the call number in the treatise list begins with the words "Law Reserve," the item is located at the reserve desk on the 6th floor. Items on reserve can only be checked out for two hours and can not be taken out of the library. To get an item that is on reserve give the title and call number to a staff member at the reserve desk.

Reference

If the call number in the treatise list begins with the words "Law Reference," the item is located in the reference collection on the 6th floor. Items in the reference collection can not be checked out. The reference collection is in the reading room on the front of the building.

Treatise Collection

If the call number in the treatise list does not begin with "Law Reserve" or "Law Reference," the item is located in the treatise collection on the 6th and 7th floors. Generally, items in the treatise collection that are not marked "Does not circulate" can be checked out.

Books in the treatise collection with call numbers in the range of AC7 to KF6221 are located on the 6th floor.  Books with call numbers after KF6221 are on the 7th floor.

Please note, when looking at an item in the catalog, the words "Law Reserve" and "Law Reference" will appear under "Location," not "Call Number." The words "Law Treatises" will appear under "Location" for items located in the treatise collection.
