Sportsmanship Award Goes to Suffolk Basketball Teams
Members of the Suffolk men’s and women’s basketball teams scored big when it came to 2016-17 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) post-season awards.
In addition to the individual awards, Suffolk was recognized with the Institutional Sportsmanship Award.
Freshman forward Alexis Hackett was a unanimous selection as the conference’s Rookie of the Year, a first accomplishment for a player on the women’s hoop squad. She averaged 8.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game and earned six conference Rookie of the Week honors, a program-record.
Joining Hackett in the awards parade were seniors Georgia Bourikas and Kelsey Schiebel, who were named All-GNAC third-team selections.
Teammate Alexandra Clarke represented the blue-and-gold on the conference All-Sportsmanship team. More on women's awards
On the men’s side, Michael Hagopian was named to the All-GNAC second team. The sophomore guard averaged a team-high 14.3 points per game, ninth highest in conference competition.
Steven DiPrizio, who was sidelined at midseason with an injury, represented the Rams on the conference’s All-Sportsmanship team. More on men's awards
