Law Alumna to Head AG’s Criminal Bureau
Suffolk University Law School alumna Kim West has been named bureau chief of the Criminal Bureau in the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office.
West, JD '95, joins the attorney general’s office from the U.S. attorney’s office, where she has served as the assistant U.S. attorney in the Health Care Fraud Unit.
She previously served as assistant U.S. attorney for the Anti-Terrorism and National Security Unit and has tried more than a dozen cases to jury verdict.
Between her stints at the U.S. attorney’s office, West served for five years as trial attorney at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in the Netherlands, where she prosecuted Radovan Karadžić, who was accused of directing the execution of more than 7,000 Bosnian Muslims in the worst massacre on European soil since the Holocaust.
West also served as an assistant district attorney in Plymouth County and as an assistant attorney general in the office’s criminal bureau.
The announcement of West’s appointment came as Attorney General Maura Healey restructured her office.
