“Seriously Bent” Makes It Up

Seriously Bent, Suffolk University’s improv comedy troupe, has honed its talents on local stages and is headed to Chicago to compete in the College Improv Tournament National Championship.

The student comedians captured the New England Regional championship in November, earning a trip to the Windy City. This is the sixth time a Suffolk group has competed at the nationals.

“We are excited to see them compete and very hopeful that they will win the national title,” said Performing Arts Director Kristin Baker. “However, we are most proud of how they have come together as a team to make this trip possible."

"We are extraordinarily proud of all that Seriously Bent has accomplished,” said Baker. “A lot of people think that being good at improv is a result of being a 'funny' person.

“In actuality, it is a result of a hard work in rehearsals, developing as a team, listening closely to your scene partner, preparing deeply, and then being open in the moment. These are skills that this team has worked hard to develop and that will serve them well in any future career.”

Seriously Bent cast members are seniors Zachary Barker, Stephanie Kay and John MacGregor; juniors Thomas Burke and Erin Farrington; sophomores Jake William Edick and Lucas Fersan; and freshmen Claire Boyle, Kevin DeCoste and Erica Wisor. Anthony Passafiume, a Seriously Bent alumnus, directs the group.

The National College Improv Tournament takes place in Chicago’s Vellum Theatre on March 14, 2015.
