Weekly Conference Honors for 2 Student-Athlete Standouts

Jennifer Ruys was named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Weekly Women’s Basketball Honor Roll and Charlie McGinnis to the ECAC Northeast Hockey Weekly Honor Roll on Feb. 3.

Ruys, a senior forward, averaged 20.3 points per game in three contests last week. She scored 25 points in a Rams win over Worcester State University, 56-47. She recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 22 points and 10 rebounds in a 75-61 setback at Bridgewater State University. Ruys rounded out the week with a 14-point effort in Suffolk’s 76-63 loss to Emmanuel College on Saturday. Through 14 games played this season, the Suffolk forward is fourth among GNAC players with a 16.9 points-per-game average. She is third all-time in Suffolk women's basketball history, with 1,341 career points scored.

McGinnis netted three goals on the week. The senior forward scored both of Suffolk’s goals in Wednesday’s 3-2 setback against Wentworth Institute of Technology. He added his third tally of the week on Saturday, tying the game with 3:39 left in regulation before Suffolk fell to Johnson & Wales University 4-3 in overtime. McGinnis is the Rams leader with eight goals on the season and is the seventh-best scorers this season in the ECAC Northeast. In 18 games played this year, McGinnis’ 13 points -- eight goals and five assists -- is second on the Suffolk hockey team. He has 25 career goals scored in 78 games played through four seasons.
