The Suffolk University Dance Company will perform in front of its biggest audience ever as its members take center court before the Boston Celtics-Orlando Magic game Friday, Jan. 29, at the TD Garden.
“This is a big and exciting opportunity, not only for our dance team, but also for Suffolk University, because it shows people what its students are doing,” said senior Emma Doherty, who is co-captain of the dance group with senior Nicole Fell.
As the opening act to the Celtics game, the Suffolk University dancers will showcase a three-minute jazz routine to Elle King’s hit, “Ex’s & Oh’s.” The pregame show begins at 6:50 p.m.
The company’s 16 dancers have been putting in three-hour practice sessions in preparation for their evening in the spotlight.
“I have been part of this group since my freshman year, and it has been a defining part of my time here at Suffolk,” said Doherty, a broadcast journalism major. “The girls that I joined with are still my friends, and it’s great to be part of a school that makes opportunities like this happen.”
The Suffolk University Dance Company works with professional director Jessica Goepfert and performs on and off campus. Dance styles include hip-hop, jazz, lyrical, and modern. The student dance team has its own show on campus each semester and also performs during some Rams basketball games.
