In 38 years of involvement in labor and employment law, Suffolk Law Professor Marc Greenbaum has “never seen anything like” the Market Basket job action in support of ousted president Arthur T. Demoulas.

Greenbaum discussed the employee uprising on WBUR radio’s “All Things Considered.”

Several employees of the Demoulas family’s supermarket chain have been fired following work stoppages and protests.

“Even non-union employees … have the right to engage in concerted activity with respect to the terms and conditions of their employment, and that’s what these employees are doing,” said Greenbaum in the interview.

The Demoulas family spent years in court battling over the business, and family members who control a small majority of the company had Arthur T. Demoulas fired in June.

The former president was the symbol of a company culture that has treated employees with respect, shared the company’s wealth through profit sharing, and responded to the needs of consumers, said Greenbaum.

Greenbaum also discussed the legal underpinnings of the job action that has left grocery shelves empty and the potential impact on other businesses during the interview with WBUR’s Deborah Becker.
