Six Student-Athletes Earn Conference Honors for Fall Season

Rams volleyball, soccer and tennis players were named to Great Northeast Athletic Conference All-Conference teams for the 2013 season.

Volleyball

In volleyball, freshman Savannah Carpenter was a second-team All-Conference selection at middle blocker, while junior Tori Brillaud was a third-team selection as an outside hitter.

Carpenter finished the season with a team-high .257 hitting percentage for the season, which was fifth among all GNAC players. She was second on the team with a 2.40-kills-per-set average while also leading the Rams with 44 solo blocks. Carpenter ranked second on the team with 36 service aces.

Brillaud was the leader among all GNAC players with 353 total kills on the year. Her 4.0-points-per-set average was tops among conference leaders. Her 3.64 kills-per-set average led all GNAC players by nearly half a point and placed her 47th among all NCAA Division-III women's players.

Suffolk finished the 2013 season with a 16-14 overall record under first-year Head Coach Kristine Mickelson and made the GNAC Tournament for the first time since the 2006 season.

Soccer

Tyler Parmelee of the men's soccer team was a GNAC third-team selection. He finished the season with three goals and seven points as Suffolk completed the season with a 4-13 overall record.

The junior midfielder played a key role in two Suffolk victories during the 2013 campaign, recording a goal and an assist in a 3-0 victory over Eastern Nazarene College on Sept. 25 and two goals in a 4-2 Suffolk victory over opponent Albertus Magnus College on Oct. 14.

Seniors Taylor Miranda and Meghan McHale of the women's soccerteam were second-team GNAC All-Conference selections.

Miranda finished the season second among GNAC players with her team-leading 15 goals scored and five game winning goals. Her 33 total points put her third in the league, and she was Suffolk's top offensive star, scoring more than half of the team's 29 goals on the year. She finishes a four-year career with 87 total points, the second most by a player in program history. During her freshman campaign in 2010, Miranda was the GNAC's Offensive Player of the Year.

McHale, a senior, has earned All-Conference accolades in each season of her four year career, the second player in program history to do so. She netted three goals and added an assist for a total of seven points during the 2013 campaign. McHale wraps up her career with 70 games played, the highest total of any Rams women's soccer player in program history. She scored a total of 12 goals and added 16 assists in her four seasons for a total of 40 points.

Miranda, McHale and senior Gabrielle Balestrier also were selected to the GNAC All-Tournament team. Suffolk fell to Lasell College, 6-1 as the Lasers won their fourth consecutive GNAC Tournament.

Suffolk finished the season with a 7-12-1 overall record.

Tennis

Freshman Aidiana Sagyndykova of the Suffolk University women's tennis team was a GNAC first-team All-Conference selection for the 2013 season.

Sagyndykova finished the year with a 5-3 record. She competed as the number one singles player in eight of the Rams' 14 matches. She recorded a 3-1 mark in GNAC contests on the year.

Sagyndykova also was a victor in three of seven doubles contests this season, bringing her victory total to eight for the year.

In addition to All-Conference honors, Sagyndykova was named to the GNAC All-Tournament team.

She was a perfect 4-0 in singles and doubles action combined in the Rams' two playoffs contests and was the lone Rams player to earn multiple victories in the 6-3 season-ending setback against Johnson & Wales University on Saturday.

Suffolk finished the season with a 5-9 overall record.
