Rams Basketball Opens the Season with "Pride"

The Suffolk women's basketball team opened the 2013-14 season by winning the Regis College Pride Tip-Off Tournament with a 52-48 victory over Sage College on Sunday afternoon.

And basketball players from both the women's and men's basketballteams -- Sam Nwadike and Iliana Quadri -- receiving Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly honors.

Pride Tip-Off Tournament

In the Rams win over Sage College, senior Jennifer Ruys finished with a team-high 13 points. She hit the go-ahead jumper with four minutes remaining in regulation.

Sophomore Chelsea Campellone led the Rams with eight second-half points and added 10 rebounds to help Suffolk regain the lead in the second half.

Freshman Kelsey Schiebel went 6-for-8 from the line for Suffolk in the waning minutes of the game, finishing with 11 points in the contest.

Suffolk went 7-for-9 from the free throw line in the final two minutes of the contest to help seal the victory.

Quadri, a junior, was named Tournament Most Valuable Player for the weekend. She led Suffolk with 23 points in the Rams' 74-50 victory over MIT on Saturday afternoon. She added five points in Sunday's victory.

Junior Shelby Santini also was named to the All-Tournament team; she had nine points and six rebounds on Sunday.

Men's tournament

Nwadike, a junior, netted 30 points in the Suffolk men’s regular season opener on Saturday evening, a 95-84 victory over Western New England University in Connecticut College’s Coaches Versus Cancer Tip-Off Tournament. He also tallied 17 points in the Rams’ 85-75 setback in Sunday’s championship against Bard College. He was an All-Tournament team selection over the weekend, averaging 23.5 points per game.
