Basketball Players Earn Conference Honors
Suffolk University freshman Frantz Pinard was named Great Northeast Athletic Conference men’s basketball Rookie of the Week on Dec. 2 for his play during the Thanksgiving holiday week, while teammate Sam Nwadike and women's basketball player Iliana Quadri, both juniors, earned GNAC Weekly Honor Roll nods for the second time this season.
Pinard averaged 13.5 points per game and seven rebounds in two contests for Suffolk. Pinard was a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor in the second half of Sunday’s 111-101 victory over New England College. He had 13 points in Sunday’s game, which saw Suffolk shoot 56.3-percent as a team. Pinard also finished with a team-high nine rebounds on Sunday. He netted 14 points on Tuesday, a 79-68 setback at home to UMass Boston. He connected on four of five shots from three-point land in that contest. Through six games, Pinard has averaged 8.8 points per game for the Rams.
Nwadike finished Sunday’s game with 24 points, the fourth of six contests this season in which he was the Rams’ leading scorer. Nwadike also netted 16 points in Tuesday’s loss.
Quadri paced the Rams with a 20-point effort on Tuesday as the Suffolk women topped Roger Williams University, 71-56. Quadri’s 8-for-12 shooting from the floor lifted the Rams past the visiting Hawks, who entered the game undefeated. In five games this season Quadri has averaged 13.8 points per game for the Rams.
