Suffolk University ranks among U.S. News & World Report’s “Best National Universities,” rising seven spots in that category, according to U.S. News’ 2018 Best Colleges rankings. And Suffolk had the nation’s fifth largest proportion of international students on campus during the 2016-17 academic year, which served as the basis for the report.
For the second year in a row, Suffolk was included in the top level of the U.S. News national universities rankings, moving up to number 181 among institutions offering a broad choice of undergraduate majors along with master’s and doctoral degrees.
With international students making up 22 percent of its undergraduate enrollment, the University, which emphasizes global education and experience in its curriculum, ranked fifth in the nation among schools with the most international students.
“The latest U.S. News rankings recognize the excellence of a Suffolk education and the strength of our academic programs,” said Acting President Marisa Kelly. “U.S. News also highlights our global diversity, which helps make Suffolk so vibrant and dynamic. Suffolk students from across the United States and across the globe engage with a broad range of cultures and perspectives in their classes, on campus, and across the city, helping to prepare them to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world and a global economy.”
Suffolk offers undergraduate and advanced degree programs in more than 60 areas of study through its College of Arts & Sciences, Sawyer Business School and Law School. The University also offers more than a dozen dual-degree programs.
Among the attributes that led to Suffolk’s ranking were its small class size, with 48 percent of classes having fewer than 20 students and only 0.2 percent larger than 50 students.
The news magazine ranked more than 1,300 colleges and universities across the nation in its annual report, dividing the schools according to their Carnegie classifications and basing the rankings on data related to academic excellence.
