Suffolk’s Bourikas Named National Player of the Week

Team's leading scorer earns recognition from the U.S. Basketball Writers Association

The accolades keep coming for Suffolk University women’s basketball player Georgia Bourikas, a senior fine arts major. This week she was recognized by the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) and named Division III Women’s Basketball National Player of the Week.

Bourikas is the first student-athlete in the program to earn this honor since the award began in the 2014-15 season.

A 5-foot-8-inch do-it-all guard, Bourikas averaged 29 points, 9.5 rebounds and three assists per game in a 2-0 week that stretched the Rams’ winning streak to five games.

For her efforts, she became the first Ram to earn a spot on D3Hoops.com’s Team of the Week. She was also named Player of the Week by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) and the New England Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Association (NEWBA).

Bourikas has made the most of her senior season, helping the blue and gold to a 7-2 record after nine games. She leads the team in scoring, averaging 15.8 points per contest, and is just 137 points shy of reaching the 1,000-point milestone.
