Mary Silva Publishes Her First Novel

Sawyer Business School alumna, Mary Silva, recently published her first book, titled, Two Out of Three, A Meagan Maloney Mystery. Silva graduated from Suffolk University in 2005 with an MBA, and has now gone on to pursue a career in fiction writing.

Two Out of Three, A Meagan Maloney Mystery is a murder-mystery novel set in present-day Boston. Protagonist Meagan Maloney is hired to locate a missing person and somehow justify a sudden unexplained delivery of $50,000. Just when she’s sure she’s cracked the case, new details cause her to believe otherwise. Through a tale of revenge, lies, and murder, Maloney will do just about anything to solve the mystery.

Silva said her Suffolk MBA has proved to be quite beneficial to her dream of becoming an author.

“I believe that my MBA has helped me in several ways, first through the networking contacts I made while attending Suffolk,” she said. “Second, being able to say that I have an MBA gives me a tremendous amount of confidence and hopefully a certain degree of credibility. Regarding delivery to the consumer, a lot of book marketing is done online, and since I was an online student, I am very comfortable with that mode of communication.”

Following the book’s 2011 publication, Silva had her first book signing on January 7 in West Palm Beach, Fla. She is currently scheduling several additional signings locally over the course of the next few months.

The succeeding novel in the Meagan Maloney series, yet to be titled, is expected to be published in November of 2012. Readers can read an excerpt of Two Out of Three or a preview of the upcoming book by visiting www.marysilvabooks.com.

Silva added that the process of creating her website, especially, was facilitated by some of the courses she had taken at Suffolk.

“The marketing classes that I took from Professor Atherton, and the website design class by Professor Frank have assisted me in my efforts so far, and I know they will be helpful as I move on with my endeavor,” she said. “In my author biography within the book, I've stated that I have an MBA from Suffolk and will continue to do that in each book moving forward. I'm proud to be an alum!”

Silva, an Iowa native, is currently living in Massachusetts with her husband. She intends to write a number of books subsequent to this one in the Meagan Maloney series.
