"Zero" Graphic Novel Illustrated by Art School Alumna

Kseniya Galper, a New England School of Art & Design alumna, has published the graphic novel e-book ZERO.

The book, or vook, was written by filmmaker, Jan Egleson, a professor at Boston University, and published by the online publishing company Vook..

Egleson and Galper, BFA '03, have combined text, illustration and film to tell the story story of a father-son relationship, the inner world of an artist, and a family transformed by the devastation of war. ZERO is focused on Egleson's learning of his father’s wartime experiences and long-hidden post-traumatic stress syndrome.

The vook, a new art form, makes use of recently discovered journals and artwork to narrate the elder Egleson's life as a muralist in Mexico in the 1930s and his traumatic experience aboard a stricken aircraft carrier in the South Pacific.

ZERO is about the struggle to synthesize these experiences, and by creating a work of art, to heal and transform.
