Members of the faculty regularly present research and share expertise with other academics. Some recent highlights:

Wyatt Bonikowski, English, presented a paper “The Voice of Treason: Rebecca West on William Joyce” at the Fifth Biennial International Rebecca West Conference.

Darlene C. Chisholm, Economics, presented a paper "The Boundaries of the Firm in Creative Industries: Evidence from Motion-Pictures Financing and Production," co-authored with George Norman of Tufts University, at the UCLA/Bruce Mallen Scholars and Practitioners Workshop in Motion Picture Industry Studies at the Anderson School of Management.

Tom Connolly, English, was appointed to the editorial board of The Ostrava Journal of English Philology, an international journal that publishes articles on linguistics and the literature and culture of English-speaking countries.

 

Rich DeCapua, associate dean of students, was elected the Massachusetts director of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) for a two-year term. He also was selected to serve on the eight-member national conference planning committee for the 2013 NASPA National Conference.

Rose DiBiase, Education and Human Services, presented a paper “Competence and Behavior Problems in Minority Children: Teachers’ and Children’s Perceptions” at the Society for Research in Child Development meeting of Positive Minority Development in Tampa, Fla.

Charles Kindregan, Law School, spoke on Constitutional Issues as to Donor Waivers in Surrogacy Cases at the American Bar Association Family Law Section meeting in Nevada, where he received a plaque noting his contributions to the A.B.A. Publications Board. He also discussed recent developments in assisted reproduction law at Case Western Reserve Law School and served as a moderator and presenter at the Law School’s Advanced Legal Studies program on the new Massachusetts alimony statute.

Micky Lee, Communication and Journalism, presented a paper “Should political economists study financial television?” at the What is Television? conference in Portland, Oregon.

Tryan L. McMickens, visiting professor, Administration of Higher Education, Education and Human Services. At the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) annual meeting in Phoenix, he presented “Racism Readiness” at the Emerging Scholars: A NASPA Faculty Fellows Research Symposium. In addition, he presented his paper “Conveying knowledge, resources, and opportunities for doctoral students of color” at the annual meeting of the American College Personnel Association in Louisville, Ky.

Quentin Miller, English, was awarded a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities to take part in a three-week summer institute on contemporary African American literature at the Africana Center at Pennsylvania State University.

Sebastián Royo, associate dean of the College and director of the Madrid campus, presented a paper “The Limits of Convergence” at the international conference Spain and the European Integration Process, organized by the Centre Virtuel de la Connaissance sur l’Europe at Yuste, Spain. He also presented “From Boom to Bust, Portugal, Spain and the Global Financial Crisis” at the 19th International Conference of Europeanists in Boston.

Lisa Shatz and Mostapha Ziad, Engineering, spoke on “Using Blogs, Labview and Lego Robotics in a Freshman Seminar Course to Teach about Sustainability Concepts” at the Northeastern American Society for Engineering Education conference in Lowell.

Thomas Trott, Biology, was elected a member of the corporation of the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole.
