Inspired to Follow Global Business Path

Josiana De Carvalho’s dream of becoming a global businesswoman was reinforced by her college professors, who offered encouragement and inspiration.

The inspiration came from professors like Miriam Weismann, whose Business Law and Ethics lectures were so intriguing that De Carvalho would sometimes forget to participate as she hung on every word.

“I just wanted to listen and observe,” she said. “That woman is really brilliant.”

Lessons from experience

De Carvalho also appreciated Professor Carlos Rufin’s tying his professional career experiences into his Global Business courses.

And De Carvalho was able to get a taste of the global business experience before she graduated from the Sawyer Business School in May.

“One of the best experiences of my life” was a global travel seminar in Italy with Professor George Moker, she said.

De Carvalho had visited and learned about many family-owned businesses during an intensive educational journey to Milan that she described as being fun, challenging and memorable.

“I learned as much from Professor Moker on that one-week trip as from some of my semester-long classes,” she said.

Paving the way to success

Looking back at her Suffolk experience, De Carvalho appreciates both the high quality of teaching and her mastery of life lessons in independence and responsibility.

“I strongly believe the knowledge and resources I’ve gained at Suffolk with help me achieve my future goals,” she said.

De Carvalho, who has always been interested in finance and traveling, plans to pursue a master’s degree. She then hopes to fulfill a lifelong dream.

“I want to start my own business someday,” she said.
