Suffolk University President James McCarthy will serve as keynote speaker for the 2012 Knowledge Globalization Conference on November 9-10. The conference will highlight current challenges in the higher education system.

McCarthy is a nationally recognized leader in higher education administration and online education. As the former provost and senior vice president at Baruch College, McCarthy oversaw Baruch’s academic programs and services. As Baruch’s chief academic officer, he managed an academic budget of more than $100 million and led efforts to develop a new five-year plan for the entire college. He also has more than 20 years of teaching experience at the University of New Hampshire, Columbia University, and Johns Hopkins University.

At the sixth annual conference, experts will touch on pressing issues in education, such as rising costs, new demands on curriculum, emerging technology, and global cultural contexts.

Distinguished speakers will include Mawdudur Rahman, founder and president of the Knowledge Globalization Institute; G. Peter Wilson, the Joseph L. Sweeney Chair of Accounting at Boston College; and Vijay Kumar, assistant provost and director of academic computing at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The event, jointly organized by Suffolk University and the Knowledge Globalization Institute, will be held in the First Floor Function Room of Suffolk University’s Sargent Hall.
