1000 Points and 1000 Rebounds

Matt Pepdjonovic enters Rams basketball lore as the second man to record 1,000 career rebounds and 1,000 career points

Senior Matt Pepdjonovic made Rams basketball history Nov. 17 when he became just the second player in program history to record 1,000 career rebounds along with 1,000 career points.

Pepdjonovic finished the game with eight points and 13 rebounds as the Rams fell to host Roger Williams University, 69-52, in the championship game of the Courtyard by Marriott Tip-Off Tournament. Pepdjonovic had entered the contest 11 rebounds shy of a career total 1,000.

He recorded the milestone with a defensive grab at the 10:46 mark in the second half, joining Christos Tsiotos (Class of 1977) as the only other Suffolk player to record quadruple digits in both points and rebounds.

The senior forward recorded his 1,000th career point last season in a Jan. 17, 2012, game against Tufts University.

With his 33 points in this season’s opening tournament, Pepdjonovic now moves into 14th place in all-time points for Suffolk University, with 1,224 career points.

Pepdjonovic finished the weekend with 1,002 career boards, 14 shy of Tsiotos’ program record of 1,016.

He becomes just the third player in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) history to record 1,000 career rebounds, joining Raymond Askew (Class of 2012) of Albertus Magnus College and Jeff Carpenter (2008) of Rivier College. All three players have collected 1,000 career points, while Askew leads GNAC rebounders with 1,192 career boards.
