Conference Honors 2 Basketball Players after Opening Weekend
Two members of the men's basketball team earned Great Northeast Athletic Conference recognition after the Rams opened conference play this past weekend with a 77-68 victory over St. Joseph's College.
Colin Halpin earned GNAC Player of the Week honors, and freshman Caleb Unni was named GNAC Rookie of the Week.
Halpin became the 27th player in Suffolk's 65-year program history to record his 1,000th career point. He finished Saturday's game with 25 points, bringing his career total to 1,007 in 70 games played at Suffolk. Halpin hit the career mark with 9:29 remaining in the second half, his 18th point of the game as he scored an easy lay in off a feed from fellow senior Chris Torres.
Unni had a monster game on Saturday, leading all scorers in the contest with 29 points. The freshman guard torched St. Joseph's in the first half for 16 points on 4-for-5 shooting from three-point land and was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free-throw line in the second half.
