The Suffolk University Board of Trustees has unanimously elected Robert C. Lamb, Jr., as its new chair, effective immediately.
Lamb, a seasoned senior executive with an extensive background in management, commercial banking, financial services and the insurance industry, succeeds Andrew C. Meyer, Jr., who retired following six years of distinguished service as board chair.
“I am humbled and honored by the trust and confidence placed in me by the Suffolk University Board of Trustees,” said Lamb. “Suffolk University has fulfilled a unique and vital role in educating a diverse and talented student body for more than 100 years. I am excited to work with all of the Suffolk communities to fulfill our mission, to enhance Suffolk’s strong reputation and to ensure the future success of this incredible institution.”
The new chair has worked as the chief financial officer of a major bank, managed a $2.3 billion initial public offering on NASDAQ and served as the audit committee chair for a New York Stock Exchange company. He also has been an active member of several nonprofit boards.
“Bob Lamb is a strong, collaborative and thoughtful leader who brings a wide range of valuable expertise to Suffolk and the board,” said Trustee Mark E. Sullivan, who chaired the Trustee Nominating Committee. “He is an experienced strategic thinker and is deeply committed to working with the board, President McKenna and the entire University community to move us forward.”

Lamb has served as the chairman and CEO of Allied International Holdings, Inc., and currently serves as a director of this company and T.H.E. Insurance Company. His many senior leadership roles include having served as executive vice president/chief financial officer at FleetBoston Financial Group when it was the seventh largest financial holding company in the United States. Lamb served as executive vice president/chief financial officer of KPMG Consulting Inc. In 2002, he was named one of the top 25 most influential consultants by Consulting Magazine.
Lamb also has offered his expertise to nonprofit organizations, having served as secretary of the board, co-chair of the finance committee, executive committee member and trustee of Boston College High School. He is a permanent trustee and treasurer of the Chocorua Island Chapel Association in New Hampshire and formerly served on the Southern New England Arthritis Foundation Board of Directors. He has completed the past three Boston Marathons (2014-2016) while raising money for cancer research at Dana-Farber.
Lamb’s roots are firmly planted in the Boston area, where he grew up one of eight siblings in Braintree, Mass. He is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where he has taught in the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Leadership. He served for six years as an Infantry Officer in the U.S. Army. He holds an MBA from Long Island University.
Retiring Suffolk Board Chair Andrew C. Meyer, Jr., joined the board in 2001 and was elected chair in 2010. As chair he made important contributions to the success and educational excellence of the University, and he oversaw a significant period of growth, including the opening of three residence halls, the Modern Theatre, and the 20 Somerset academic building. Meyer, co-founder of the Boston law firm Lubin & Meyer, one of the country’s most successful medical malpractice law firms, is a 1974 graduate of Suffolk University Law School and received an honorary doctor of laws degree in 1999 from Suffolk Law.
“Suffolk University has undergone an extraordinary evolution over the past six years,” Meyer said. “I am confident that the confirmation of Bob Lamb as our new chair and his leadership will continue the board’s commitment to the school’s longstanding tradition of excellence. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve my alma mater as a member and chair of the Board of Trustees, and I thank my colleagues for their tremendous dedication as we worked together for the good of the University. I leave the board with great admiration for the University, its students, and the faculty and staff who make it flourish, and I look forward to staying engaged with Suffolk as a proud alumnus.”
