Sawyer Business School student Stephen Gaudet recently received a prestigious scholarship from the Boston Chapter of the international honor society Beta Gamma Sigma.

The award, presented at the Seventh Annual Boston Area Alumni Chapter Scholarship Dinner last month, recognizes a business student who embodies three key qualities: honor, wisdom, and earnestness.

“It is truly an honor to have been recognized by the Beta Gamma Sigma Alumni Chapter as this year’s scholarship recipient. I am extremely grateful and humbled by their selection,” Gaudet said, adding, “I must thank my family and the Suffolk community for supporting my efforts thus far.”

Gaudet, who is a senior at Suffolk University’s Business School, is pursuing a double major in Accounting and Management. He recently interned at Deloitte & Touche and will return next summer.

Speakers at the scholarship dinner included Michael McCarthy, president of the Beta Gamma Sigma Boston Chapter, and Marketing Strategist Joanne Sperry Sparks.
Mentor and role model

As a Sawyer Ambassador, one of 10 honors students, Gaudet serves a mentor and role model for other Sawyer Business School students.

“I decided to join the Sawyer Ambassador Program because of its unique, service-focused mission. It allows student leaders the opportunity to positively impact the undergraduate population of the business school in every possible way. Creative, forward thought drives our team to take actions that we hope will enhance the school and elevate the level of community and learning on campus,” Gaudet said.

He coordinates service projects at the Rosie’s Place sanctuary for homeless women, one of several community organizations served by the Sawyer Ambassadors. He has also tutored students for whom English is a second-language.

“The Sawyer Business School constantly challenges me to improve as a student and human being; my service as an ambassador is a way for me to give back and say ‘thank you,’” Gaudet said.
Additional honors

Gaudet’s achievements have also been recognized through the Business School Honors Scholarship, Beta Alpha Psi Honor Society, and the Financial Executives International Scholarship.

He is president of the Honors Scholars Planning Committee and has represented Sawyer Business School honors students at the National Collegiate Honors Council Conference. He has also participated in the 2010 Externship at KPMG Forensic Advisory Services and the 2011 KPMG Discovery Program.
