James Nebus Joins Sawyer Business School

James Nebus joins Sawyer Business School as an assistant professor of Strategy & International Business.

Nebus earned his PhD in International Business/Business Strategy and MBA from the Moore School of Business, University of South Carolina. He also earned bachelor’s degrees in Economics and Electrical Engineering from Rutgers University.

Nebus has 26 years of experience in the computer industry, where he held management positions in hardware and software engineering, systems architecture, product management, and product marketing. During his last 10 years in the industry, Nebus held several international management positions with NCR, primarily in Asia and Europe.

Prior to joining Sawyer Business School, Nebus was an assistant professor of management at the University of North Carolina (UNC) Charlotte, College of Business for six years. His areas of expertise include international management, commercialization of innovations across borders, political economy, knowledge management, and managing innovation.

At UNC, Nebus taught several global MBA courses on Business Environment and International Management, as well as special topics travel courses on Doing Business in Eastern Europe, Germany, Brazil, and Argentina. He also taught undergraduate and graduate Strategy courses.

He has published articles on knowledge management and innovation, which explain how expertise emerges, is shared, and then commercialized in multinational corporations. His other research area is political economy, especially modeling bargaining scenarios to help organizations develop strategies leading to desirable political economic outcomes. His work has been published in several leading academic publications, including the Academy of Management Review, the Journal of International Business Studies, and the IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management.
