Hip-Hop Dancers Open for Boston Celtics
Wicked, the University’s hip-hop dance crew, performed on the TD Garden parquet before a recent Boston Celtics-San Antonio Spurs game.
“It was a lot of fun and we all had a good time,” said dance crew captain Courtney Halas. “The people from the Celtics were very nice, and everything went smoothly.”
The most memorable moment of the special night for Halas was “when Rajon Rondo was walking by and stopped to watch us. Everyone was freaking out.”
Halas, who majors in business management, founded the 18-member dance crew two years ago.
“With all of the dance crew shows on television, it was the perfect time to start a group of our own,” said Halas. “My goal was to bring everyone together and create an exciting environment wherever we performed.”
According to Halas, the team practices two days a week for a total of five hours. Wicked has performed at halftime during Suffolk men’s and women’s home basketball games and competes with other area colleges.
“We are extremely proud of all that Wicked has been able to achieve in the two years that they have been a student performing group,” said Kathleen Maloney, assistant director in the Performing Arts Office. “The dancers' energy, creativity, and talent is both entertaining and energizing to watch. To see them perform for everyone at the TD Garden was amazing."
