ISOM Chair Wins Research Award
Kuo-Ting (Ken) Hung, chair and associate professor of Information Systems and Operations Management (ISOM) at Sawyer Business School, recently won the Best Theoretical/Empirical Research Paper Award for the 2011 Decision Sciences Institute (DSI) Conference.
Established in 1978 and won by scholars from major research institutions, including Carnegie Mellon University, Georgia Institute of Technology, and Ohio State University, this conference-wide award underlines the theoretical relevance and empirical rigor of Hung’s research work.
Hung co-authored the award-winning paper with Chanchai Tangpong, associate professor of Management at the North Dakota State University, College of Business. In the study, the authors identified cross-level fallacies as a major problem in behavioral research on operations and supply chain systems. To prevent such fallacies in research, they developed a methodological framework based on the synergistic use of experiment and survey research methods.
Their innovative approach is simple and effective in examining how the interaction of various factors influence behavioral decision-making in operations and supply chain systems. This research offers new insights regarding business and operational policy setting that considers the characteristics of decision-making agents within the context of organizations.
Supply chain management is complex and challenging, as it involves a network of organizations that collaborate to transform materials and distribute final products to consumers. As more and more businesses expand globally, the demand for supply chain management professionals is increasing.
To help business leaders compete in the global market, the Suffolk MBA offers a concentration in Supply Chain Management. With a global focus, the program teaches students how to manage the supply chain operations, channel relationships, information systems, and projects across countries.
Suffolk’s Supply Chain Management concentration is listed on the Institute for Supply Management’s website. The Institute is the world’s largest supply management association.
