Business Graduate, Tennis Star, and Successful Entrepreneur

Recent graduate Jared Orkin put the knowledge he garnered as a Management major at the Sawyer Business School to work by creating a lucrative Web site--despite the shaky economy.

He founded Coupme.com in July 2009, before entering his senior year. The site lists a new discount coupon every 24 hours for a range of businesses, from restaurants to hotels to indoor skydiving centers. The site and the businesses providing the coupon share the profits from the sale.

"This came about because I'm always looking for fun things to do at a really inexpensive price," said Orkin. "That's the whole goal of the Web site. A new deal every day, something exciting to do in the city."

For example, Coupme.com recently offered coupons that would purchase:

  • A one-hour massage worth $80 at Boston Backworks for a Coupme.com price of $45
  • $30 worth of food at Vintage Lounge for a Coupme.com price of $19

In addition to being a student and the CEO of his own startup during the past year, Orkin was a key member of the Suffolk University tennis team. He was named to the GNAC All-Tournament team in 2010 and 2008 and was GNAC Rookie of the Year in 2007.

Orkin's positive attitude may be the key to his success at such a wide variety of pursuits.

"I always say, ‘Love what you do.' Because if you're not loving what you're doing, you're wasting your time."
