Amy MacNulty will be joining the Healthcare Administration faculty in the fall of 2010, to teach a core foundational course: Health Systems 1 (HLTH 701BE). An overview of the origins, components, organization, and operation of the US healthcare system, it serves as an introduction to major healthcare issues and institutions, including the settings in which health services are delivered, the providers of these services, and the public and private payers for services.

Amy will bring remarkable breadth of experience to the classroom. With over 24 years of healthcare experience, she’s a recognized leader in facilitation, strategic planning, strategies for strengthening physician-hospital relationships, and clinical-services business planning. She’s now president of MacNulty Consulting, L.L.C., a healthcare management consulting firm that provides strategy and planning services to healthcare organizations.
Prior to launching MacNulty Consulting, she served as Senior Principal and Northeast Region Manager for Noblis, a nationally recognized science, technology, and strategy organization. At Noblis she combined her strategic planning, organizational development, and program design skills to manage a broad range of planning projects, and she co-edited Noblis’s Horizons: Journal of the Center for Health Innovation for three years.

“I’ve known Amy since the early 1990s and have always been impressed by her knowledge of healthcare and her professionalism,” says Rick Gregg, Operating Director of the Healthcare Programs. He notes that Amy has been a mentor to Healthcare Program students for the past two years, and that her mentees have gained valuable experience working with her and have enjoyed their association. “I know her students will learn a lot from her, and I look forward to her expanded role in our programs,” he adds.

 

In 2006 Amy co-authored Strategies for Physician-Hospital Alignment: A National Study, sponsored by the American Hospital Association’s Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development. She has presented on this topic to many national and regional associations including the American College of Healthcare Executives, American College of Physician Executives, Healthcare Financial Management Association, Baptist Leadership Institute, Missouri Healthcare Executive Group, and New England Society for Healthcare Strategy.

Amy was named Healthcare Strategist of the Year in 2007 by the New England Society for Healthcare Strategy.
