MassINC and CommonWealth magazine will present Massachusetts gubernatorial candidates in a discussion about Cape Wind and its impact on climate change, the economy, and energy policy in the commonwealth.

Debate 

The debate will include Republican Charlie Baker; Massachusetts Treasurer Tim Cahill, who is running as an independent; incumbent Democratic Gov. Deval Patrick; and Jill Stein of the Green-Rainbow Part.

The "First Gubernatorial Issues Debate" will take place at 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16, 2010, at the University's C. Walsh Theater, 55 Temple St., Boston. Doors will open at 3:30 p.m.

Cape Wind has taken on national prominence as a symbol of the nation’s efforts to embrace renewable energy, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and combat climate change.

However, the project’s above-market cost has become a hot-button issue locally, prompting a debate about green industry in general and the best way for the state to achieve its environmental and energy goals without putting businesses at a competitive disadvantage.

The debate will be moderated by Greg Torres, president of MassINC and publisher of CommonWealth magazine. Videotape will be available on the MassINC Web site after the debate takes place.
