Suffolk Student's Work the Face of New CTF Campaign

The Project

A poster designed by Suffolk student Kirsten Malinowski was chosen to represent the Children’s Trust Fund (CTF) of Massachusetts “Not Even for a Minute” campaign. Her poster was distributed to social services agencies across the state and will be adapted for a billboard in the spring of 2011.

Malinowski (Graphic Design ’11) designed the work in an Advertising Design course taught by Anthony Capozzi at the New England School of Art & Design at Suffolk University (NESADSU).

The class collaborated with the CTF to gain professional experience and to help an organization that works to prevent child abuse through parent education. All of the students created posters conveying the message that children should never be left in a car unsupervised, not even for a minute.

The CTF chose three of the student works and featured them in a Facebook poll to determine which design would be used for the campaign.

Design

Malinowski’s design shows a child holding the hand of a parent and a parked car in the background.

“This relationship shows love and care for one another and also gets the message across that this parent chose to do the right thing and not leave the child alone in the car,” Malinowski said of her work. Left alone, children are at risk of dehydration, hyperthermia, and heat stroke.

"I had an amazing time working on this poster and working with the Children’s Trust Fund. They’re genuinely nice people trying to make the world a better place, and I hope that my poster gets that message across,” said Malinowski.

Anthony Capozzi at NESADSU said “Kirsten’s art direction allows the viewer to understand visually the dynamic of a child being dependent upon a parent…The headline is bold and the colors are captivating so the key message is delivered quickly and precisely.”

Students Franklin Castillo, Morgan Laliberte, Kelley Garrard, Amy Parker, and Amanda Desrosiers also created artwork for the campaign.
