Student Liaison Jaclene Coit is honored

A full-time Suffolk MHA student since January 2009, Jaclene Coit is the Suffolk Healthcare Programs' Student Liaison to the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and its Massachusetts chapter, the Healthcare Management Association of Massachusetts (HCMA). Both ACHE and HCMA offer networking opportunities, educational resources, and career development services.

As Student Liaison, Jaclene has represented Suffolk on HCMA’s board and worked as co-chair of HCMA’s Publicity Committee. In recognition of her outstanding service to HCMA, on May 4, 2010, she received the $1,000 David M. Kinzer Scholarship Award.

Jaclene attended the 2010 ACHE Congress on Healthcare Leadership in Chicago with Rick and two other Suffolk MHA students. At the Congress she served as a Program Assistant, providing support to speakers and organizers.

She played a key role in organizing the Massachusetts Hospital Association (MHA) Spring Student Symposium, which featured several MHA executives, including Lynn Nicholas, President and CEO, and Karen Nelson, Senior Vice President of Clinical Affairs and a Suffolk MPA/Health graduate. The symposium provided opportunities for networking, education, and conversation for healthcare students from throughout the Commonwealth.

Jaclene graduated from Saint Michael's College in Vermont, where she majored in Business Administration and minored in Finance and Management. She became interested in healthcare while serving an internship at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin, in Ireland.

In addition to pursuing her graduate studies, Jaclene works in the Division of Cardiology at Tufts Medical Center, recognized by the National Cardiovascular Network as one of the nation's premier cardiac care providers. She served an internship at the Center in the summer of 2009. Her duties included helping to improve efficiencies through design and implementation of a new call system and helping to initiate division-wide e-prescribing. She also played a key role in community outreach programs. When her internship ended, Tufts offered her a part-time position. Since last September she’s been working on a variety of projects focused on operations management.

After Jaclene completes the 2010 fall semester, she will graduate from Suffolk’s MHA Program and become a full-time healthcare manager.
