Basketball Players Earn GNAC Recognition

Two Suffolk University basketball players were recognized by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) as the 2010-11 season opened.

Colin Halpin of Melrose, a sophomore forward on the men's team, and Jennifer Ruys of Wallingford, Conn., a freshman forward on the women’s team, were selected to the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll.

Halpin averaged 20 points for the week as Suffolk opened the season with a 2-1 mark. He had 21 points and 9 rebounds in a 76-69 win over Eastern Nazarene in the season opener. Halpin then had a 25 point effort to go along with 9 boards as Suffolk topped UMaine-Presque-Isle, 83-70. He was selected to the New England College All-Tournament Team.

Ruys was the team's leading scorer in all three games to start the 2010-11 season, averaging 16.3 points per game. She had a season high 18 points in Suffolk's 68-63 win over Clarkson. Ruys took advantage of free throws as she was 21-for-22 from the line for the week.
