"The Mindful Way through Anxiety"
Psychology Professor Susan M. Orsillo is co-author of a new book that presents a clinically
tested plan for reducing anxiety through mindfulness.
The Mindful Way through Anxiety: Break Free from Chronic Worry and Reclaim Your Life is based on a treatment approach Orsillo and co-author Lizabeth Roemer of the University of Massachusetts-Boston developed over the course of a decade with funding from the National Institutes of Health.
Their research has shown that a new type of awareness can help beat anxiety, and they aim to help readers “discover the capacity [they] already possess to move beyond the limits that anxiety has placed on [their lives]."
The method outlined in The Mindful Way through Anxiety integrates the soothing principles of mindfulness with well-known behavioral approaches, so that readers learn to identify anxiety triggers and prevent worry from escalating.
Self-evaluations, meditation exercises, and lists of quick tips offer coping strategies for the many ways anxiety can invade routine activities ranging from shopping in the supermarket to making a presentation at work.
Orsillo is director of Clinical Training in Suffolk University’s Clinical Psychology doctoral program and has been involved in anxiety disorders research and treatment for over 20 year.
