With 11 teams qualifying for post-season competition, the 2006-07 athletic season at Suffolk University was successful. The Rams place three teams in ECAC competition, one in each of the fall, winter and spring seasons. And one Suffolk team reached the GNAC Championship finals. Two women’s athletes were named GNAC Player of the Year.

Sophomore Jess Ferreira and junior Jen Nelson were named GNAC Player of the Year, Ferreira in softball and Nelson in women’s tennis.

Coach Cary McConnell’s baseball team reached the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tournament Championship game, but could not pull out a win and claimed the runner-up trophy. The Rams, seeded No. 1, also reached the finals the ECAC New England Baseball Series, but were again the runner-up.

Coach Ed Leyden’s women’s basketball team reached the semifinals of the GNAC tournament and then earned a spot in the ECAC New England Championships as the No. 5 seed.

Coach Nick Papadopoulos’ men’s soccer team earned their first ever ECAC appearance as a No. 8 seed in the ECAC New England tournament. The men’s soccer team reached the GNAC semifinals after winning their quarterfinal GNAC tournament game in overtime. 

The women’s tennis team advanced to the GNAC semifinals after winning their quarterfinal match. No. 1 singles player Jen Nelson was then named GNAC Player of the Year for the second straight season.

Coach Adam Nelson’s men’s basketball team reached the GNAC semifinals as the No. 7 seed, after upsetting second-seeded Emerson in the quarterfinals.

Coach Vicki Schull’s softball team qualified for the GNAC tournament play-in game as the No. 8 seed, but lost by one run to Simmons. Sophomore pitcher Jess Ferreira was then named GNAC Player of the Year.

The men’s tennis team earned the No. 2 seed in the GNAC post-season tournament, but could not get past Emerson, losing 5-4. The Rams had beaten Emerson 6-3 in an upset during the regular season match.

Both cross country teams competed in the GNAC race as well as the ECAC and NCAA Regional cross country meets.

The golf team played in the first ever GNAC Alliance tournament in April and competed in the annual NEIGA tournament on Cape Cod in October.

Women’s volleyball qualified for GNAC post-season as the seventh seed.

Coach Chris Glionna’s ice hockey team came one win away from reaching the ECAC Northeast post-season tournament. Forwards Dan Pencinger and John Rocchio finished the year ranked nationally in scoring.
